That 10,000 watt figure is actually surge, not continuous, on many models.

Oil+filter every 100 hours = $300. Potential major repair (say $500 after 2,000 hours). Downtime cost if it fails during a critical job? That’s harder but add a contingency of $200. Resale maybe $2,500 after 3 years. Net TCO roughly $4,050.
Now compare to a no-name generator at $2,800. Lower resale, higher repair risk. The TCO might be the same or worse. Run your own numbers – you’ll be surprised.
One cost people ignore: maintenance labor. If you have to take a generator to a shop for an oil change, that’s shop time. If you do it yourself, you need to know basic engine service – like where is the fuel pump relay located (on most Honda GX engines, it’s under the control panel near the carburetor), and how to test 3 wire crank sensor with multimeter (check resistance between signal and ground – typically 200-900 ohms on a cold engine). I learned these the hard way when our unit wouldn’t start during a Friday rush.
